OSCE Border Management Staff College launches first distance-learning course

DUSHANBE, 18 September 2014 – The OSCE Border Management Staff College launched its first distance-learning course this week, with participants completing the first introductory segment today. The one-year course focuses on border security and management.
The 25 participants of the course come from border and customs agencies of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Tajikistan, Tunisia and Ukraine. They are taking part in an integrated learning programme that consists of e-learning activities, classroom studies and post-course assignments.
The course is designed and developed in co-operation with the Geneva Centre for Security, Development and Rule of Law (DCAF), and aims to enhance the knowledge of mid- to senior-level professionals working in border security and management.
The comprehensive course curriculum covers three modules on Modern Security Challenges and Border Management, Leadership and Management, and Current and Emerging Trends in Border Security Management.
“This course is the first eLearning programme offered by the College. After completing the course, our graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to analyze modern security threats and challenges, examine contemporary security environment, improve the leadership and management skills and get acquainted with new trends and challenges in modern border security,” said Alexander Eliseev, Chief of Education at the OSCE Border Management Staff College. “We believe that these set of competencies will help our graduates fulfill their ambitions in terms of career progression.”
Andrus Oovel, Head of the Border Security Programme at DCAF, said: “During the first introductory week the participants demonstrated high motivation and open-mindedness. I am convinced that this well-developed training tool will further enhance their knowledge, skills and experiences.”
